Systems Engineer S1 (Subscale Jet Turbine Powered UAV)

About the S1 Subscale Jet Turbine Project

We are a team of dedicated students at ETH and the ETH Student Project House, working on a jet turbine powered UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle). Our mission is to push the boundaries of remote-controlled aircraft design, aiming for unprecedented speeds. We’re currently building an electric 1:3 scale aircraft to validate our analysis software and to set the ground work for the upcoming S1 (1:2 scale jet turbine powered aircraft) and Full-scale (jet turbine powered aircraft aimed to reach Mach 0.85 / 1000km/h).

Your Role:

  • Take ownership for the development of our S1 subscale jet turbine powered aircraft and push for quick development.
  • Collaborate with the team to integrate various subsystems into a cohesive and functional prototype.
  • Participate in the design, testing, and iteration of S1.
  • Contribute to the aerodynamic analysis and flight stability assessments at transonic speeds.

Your Skills:

  • A good foundation in aerospace engineering principles and/or the will to learn rapidly as needed.
  • A hands-on attitude
  • Proficiency in CAD
  • An analytical mindset with a problem-solving approach to engineering challenges.

Working Conditions:

  • Project start: ASAP or starting in the Fall semester 2024
  • Duration: Minimum of 2 Semesters
